Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a puppy?
Our puppies are $1,800. This is lower end average pricing for a well-bred Labrador Retriever. A well-bred dog is the collective efforts made by the breeder to have the most temperamentally and physically sound representation of the breed as well as ethical practices in caring for the mother and raising the puppies.
I need to pick up my puppy after 8 weeks. What is the additional fee?
The boarding and training fee for us to hold a puppy after 8 weeks of age is $20/day.
There are so many diets to choose from. What do you recommend?
We feed Purina Pro Plan. We recommend feeding a diet that has AAFCO standards, ingredients sourced from the USA, a Veterinary Nutritionist on their team, has undergone diet trials, and is backed by scientific research. This ensures your pet is getting the most up to date and studied nutrition to live the longest life with you. The available over the counter diets that have this behind them are Purina Pro Plan, Hills Science Diet, Royal Canin, and Blue Buffalo. You can visit WSAVA Guidlines on Selecting a Pet Food for more information.
What about Raw or Fresh Diets?
We do not recommend raw diets due to the human health risk it poses with bacterial and parasitic contamination. Labradors are family dogs and if they are in contact with children and the eldery, the risk is higher. Yes, wild canids eat raw diets, however it is proven domesticated dogs live a longer lifespan without a raw diet.
Fresh/cooked diets are a great option when properly balanced with the help of a nutritional expert if you are considering homecooking. If purchasing a fresh diet, ensure the company has a veterinary nutritionist on their team. Fresh food can also be supplemented with kibble to avoid nutritional deficiences.
Do you breed Silver Labs?
No. Whether you are on the side of the fence that the silver color is a recessive trait or that it came from a mix of breeds, it is not a recognized breed standard coloration of Labrador Retrievers.
Do you breed White or Red Labs?
Yes. Red and White are a modern term for a yellow lab. The color range of a yellow lab is cream/white to fox red.
What is the difference between English and American Labrador Retrievers?
The American Kennel Club (AKC) recognizes both English and American Labs as one breed, and both types are evaluated against the same standards. The biggest difference is the “stocky and blocky” appearance of an English and the “long and lean” appearance of an American.
What can I expect owning a Labrador Retriever?
They are known as one of America’s most popular dog breeds, holding the top spot for 31 years in the AKC. They are known for being “light-switch” dogs where if you want to be active or want to be lazy, they will be happy to do either as long as they get to do it with you. They are extremely versatile to fit a variety of owners including the common family, hunting and sport, or medical needs and therapy.
I want to breed my puppy. Can I do this?
Only to approved owners will I sell my puppies on full registration. The additional fee would be $1,800 totaling the price of the puppy with full registration at $3,600. Otherwise, my puppies are sold on limited AKC registration meaning that they are only pets and not for breeding. Limited registration allows for the puppy to be AKC, yet does not allow you register any bred puppies with the AKC. There is more than meets the eye on what goes into a well-bred dog. Limited registration prevents backyard breeding and protects our lines.
